Space Pirate Captain Herlock - The Legend Returns (Vol. 1)

This series continues the long-running adventures of dashing swashbuckling Captain Herlock. The Captain is pitted against ghouls controlled by the primordial demon Noo. The demon Noo briefly ruled creation immediately after the Big Bang but was imprisoned. As humans explore the cosmos, they are inadvertently breaking the seals that imprison Noo, to the peril of every living thing. Through the machinations of the Noo, Earth is simultaneously in its orbit and hurtling toward Yader. If the planet strikes the Gate of Yader, it will free Noo, who will then terrorize all living things. A mysterious female entity, one of the Descendants of the Twisted Rope, explains the situation to Herlock, and pleads for help. Herlock dismisses her request, insisting he lead his life as he chooses. While apparently indifferent the daring space pirate undoubtedly has a plan up his skull-and-crossbones emblazoned sleeve.
